AI-assisted coding for mathematical exploration
Dec 11, 2026 - Dec 13, 2026
ICERM, Providence, RI (USA)
The "AI-assisted coding for Mathematical Exploration" Hot Topics workshop will explore how large language models (LLMs) and other AI tools can empower mathematicians to rapidly prototype, visualize, and analyze mathematical concepts through custom-built applications. Participants will gain hands-on experience in leveraging AI to create interactive tools for their research; successful examples include simulations of periodic cellular automata, statistical analyses of random percolations, and explorations of geometric and topological structures.
The workshop will begin with a showcase of existing AI-assisted applications, followed by sessions on the fundamentals of LLM-based coding, real-time demonstrations of app development, and discussions on the ethical implications of AI in mathematical research. Advanced topics, such as custom skill development and parallel agent management will also be covered as time permits. The workshop will culminate in a showcase of participant-created apps, highlighting the immediate practical impact of AI-assisted coding in mathematical exploration.
